It’s getting closer and some people are getting merrier while others are getting sadder. Suicide hot-lines are lit up, counseling offices are open beyond normal hours and the most wonderful time of the year turns into the saddest time for those who are grieving, suffering, remembering, dying.
This is the day the word impossible comes into our focus. I love the word impossible because it represents a hardship that will press me into God’s presence.
It’s not a fun word because it means unlikely to happen. It can also represent living in the “Unders”… under the circumstances, under the weather, under the pain of the process, under the blanket of depression.
Christmas is about Jesus, his birth, why he came, and what he brought with him as he became God in human form. God through his son Jesus takes that word impossible and smashes it!
Look Up!
Today’s Focus: Luke 1: 37
“For nothing is impossible with God”
Jesus makes possibilities out of all impossible situations.
The angel in explaining the situation to Mary, encouraged her by telling her that God’s power would overshadow all things, and pointed out that even Elizabeth was going to have a child in her old age, after years of being said to be barren. How could this be? Because NOTHING IS IMPOSSIBLE WITH GOD. That’s right, no-thing is out of his reach or possibilities.
Look In: What are the impossible things in your life? Those things that seem out of reach, out of your control, impossible to deal with or too painful, are the very places that God shows up. Remember He is the Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father and Prince of Peace. And, now we see that nothing is impossible with God. What is it that you need to believe for today?
Look Out: There are sad, stressed people everywhere. Live as a light today. If you are hurting yourself, live beyond yourself by living in possibility faith, by reminding yourself several times a day that nothing is impossible with God. Let that be the light and hope within you everywhere you go, with everyone you meet. Is there someone in financial impossibilities that God might want you to help. A gift card? some food? some gas?
Pray: Give God the area that seems most impossible. Surrender it, open-handed surrender. Ask Him to work his possibilities into it.
Praising God that He is the possible in my life!
