It’s that time of year again. Lights are being hung, gifts are being bought, old grief is being resurrected and “to-do” lists are getting far too long. Expectations are all around us. Some bring us joy and some bring us tears. The most joyous season is often found lacking when the focus is all about what we have to do, have to see, or what we have to buy. Instead of decking the halls, many of us enter into a Christmas slump.
Here are some things that I have found to help:
Make time for reflection and prayer
If you don’t have a devotional book, go get yourself and early Christmas gift. Put a daily reading at the top of your list each day, and finish the time with prayer. I enjoy My Utmost for His Highest by Oswald Chambers, or Jesus Calling by Sarah Young. You might also like to try the Faith Dare this month to keep you focused upward.
Practice His Presence
Make Chrsit the center of your thoughts during the month of December. Continually bring your mind back to who He is, how His grace has touched your life, and His love and provision for you.
Think of Others
Instead of focusing on your “own little world” this season, think out of the box. Who could you bless with a card or a plate of cookies, or a phone call. Who could you extend love and appreciation to. You don’t have to have money to do this, you just have to give of your heart. It’s fun and fulfilling to be a blessing to someone else.
That’s enough to get you going…it’s only December 2nd. Practice theses three things as you begin preparing your heart to celebrate the greatest gift of all, the Birth of Christ.
You see, without Christ we are limited to SELF. And with Christ we are free to be all that God intended us to be. It’s like soaring instead of slumping. How do we soar during a month of busyness? Practice the three things above as a means of getting your focus on the LORD and as a means to keeping your hope fixed on HIM.
“those who hope in the LORD will renew their strength. They will soar with wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.” Isa 40:31
Let’s Soar!
With December Blessings,
Debbie
