James 1:22-25
“Do not merely listen to the word, and so deceive yourselves. Do what it says. Anyone who listens to the word but does nto do what it says is like a man who looks at his face in a mirror, and, after looking at himself, goes away and immediately forgets what he looks like. But the man who looks intently into the perfect law that gives freedom, and continues to do this , not forgetting what he has heard, but doing it, he will be blessed in what he does.”
Do you forget easily? You know, forgetting just the regular things in every day life…lose your keys? forget to pick up the dry cleaning…things like that. What about forgetting what you have read in God’s word as soon as you leave the pages of the Bible and begin living in your daily duties?
It’s common to read something and remember….doing nothing in action.
It’s also common to read and forget entirely…doing things that keep us too busy to remember.
It’s uncommon to remember and to act on what we remember to be true.
Do you want to live a common life or an uncommon life that is revolutionized by the character and presence of God himself?
To live an uncommon life requires us to not just read, but to remember…and not just remember in theory but to then act on what we remember to be true in God’s word.

Tell me about the most recent time you acted on something God made clear to you through His word and the freedom it brought you.

I gained this conviction about 5 years ago. Seeing how we can hear such meat from the Bible and yet it just is a bunch of head knowledge and not used in the power it is intended to be used. Then about 3 years ago I realized that that knowledge not used in our lives for the Lords work becomes used in our lives by the enemy and that scared the crazy out of me. So know I have been living my life ( good grief please know not perfectly by any means) seeking to apply the things that God puts in my heart from His Word. My most current victory is while i have been studying Galatians and seeing really this picture of how we choose bondage over freedom. I began to give the Lord permission to search my heart and I made a list of the things found in Gal 5 and asked myself where to I really fall on each word ( jealousy strife…) looking at my life and the current trials i am walking in and asking God if this list is apart of any of my trials. Okay so of course the answer is yes. So then I began to ask God to convict my heart, break it as it breaks His. O how I long to have clean hands pure heart and to live in the list given in verses 22-23. To repent and allow the brokenness to have it’s way in my heart is so freeing. I know this is a process but I am really learning and walking in freedom, when i had no idea that i wasn’t before. To God be the Glory!!!!
Keep chasing righteousness!!!

wow Susan…sounds like God is really working in your heart, mind and life. Galatians 5 is a true mirror isn’t it? I memorized the works of the flesh awhile back so that I could be on guard against my own flesh and the temptations of the enemy. It has been a huge eye opener and a change agent in my life. It was for FREEDOM, that Christ has set us FREE!
