Obedience.
Sometimes that word strikes fear, angst, and rebellion in me. Fear that I won’t want to do something God is telling me to do, Angst because I realize that I am better off obeying than not, and rebellion because just knowing I “have” to do something often brings out that old rebellious childish nature that pouts ” I don’t have to if I don’t want to!”
And, I’m right, I don’t have to obey, but the loss is mine. There is a blessing and a peace that follows obedience. Not to mention it pleases God, because every form of obedience, especially the hard ones, takes faith. Faith pleases God, in fact, we can not please God without faith. ( Hebrews 11:6)
Philippians 2: 8
“he humbled himself and became obedient to death, even death on a cross. Therefore God exalted him to the highest place and gave him the name that is above every name.”
Jesus humbled himself. It is an act of humility to put someone else’s plan or wishes above our own. And, his obedience brought pain and suffering. He knew what was coming, and he obeyed anyway. He knew He was God in the form of man, yet he still went through the suffering. Why?
He also knew that there was a plan, and the plan included God sending His son to die for our sins. It had to be done this way. It was the sacrifice that would grant us our salvation. There is a story, a plan, and a way that things are to play out. Jesus knew this, and submitted to it. He obeyed.
I often wonder how much more easily I would obey if I realized that there was a greater story working in my life as well. We often forget that God ordained our days ( Psa 139:16) and we forget that He already prepared good works for us to walk in. He has a plan, intent and purpose for each of our individual lives….but our part is the humbling ourselves to submit to the plan.
- What is the one thing that you keep sensing God is asking you to obey Him in?
- What is keeping you from humbling yourself to obey?
Chew on that one today. See you tommorrow.
Monday love,
Debbie
