Philippians 2:13
“for it is God who works in you to will and to act according to his good purpose.”
Wow! This is a wow verse.
A few years back God made this verse real and alive to me. And, there is not a day that goes by without me thanking him that he is indeed at work in me. I know it’s hard to fathom, God, at work in us. We know us, and we can not imagine that this could be true, but it is.
I want to break it down for you the way God broke it down for me:
God is working in me in two areas:
- my will
- my actions
Why? because he has a good purpose that he desires to see fulfilled in my life
Ephesians 2:10
“For we are God’s workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.”
- We are God’s workmanship, He created us, we are his piece of art, his poem. The Greek there is poiema…which means that!
- We have been spiritually created through our spiritual re-birth to walk in the good things that God prepared…there is a plan…for us to do.
- How are we going to do them?
- He, himself, is going to work in our minds…to will
- And, he himself is going to give us the grace and strength and gifting…to do
I used to ignore my random mental thoughts. But, now I pay attention when something persists in my brain space. Why? because God may very well be trying to speak to me…to will, so that I will do, His will.
For instance…you don’t want to forgive someone, or let them off your emotional ugly hook. You close the case and move on your merry way avoiding them, refusing to see that your attitude towards someone God loves is sin. Then……..you begin getting this thought, ” I should let go of this, it is stupid…” you ignore it at first, it doesn’t go away…..
Could it be that God wants you to forgive and that He himself is planting that idea in your mind so that you will end up letting go and moving towards forgiveness?
It amazes me that this is how it works. God doesn’t leave us to figure it all out on our own. He intervenes by working in us to will…that happens in our minds. So the next time you get a brain storm, girlfriend that might really be a spirit storm! so pay attention.
Now, not all the things I think are God working in me….but when he desires to work in me, leading me down a path of obedience, it always starts with a thought, that persists and later turns to an action…the end result is God himself leading us down the path of the good works that he has prepared for us in advance!
Listen.
I’m listening too,
