Getting up and ready to go to church for Bible Study day. One of my favorite days of the week. Doing Beth Moore’s Breaking Free and it’s killing me girls…..:)
This week’s lesson is on the mind and it ties in so much with this week’s challenge of morning focus. What we start our day with sets a tone. Focus has so much to do with the quality of our mental state.
2 Cor 10:5
“We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ.”
This verse starts with “we”. There is something WE must do if our thought life is going to be brought under the power of God’s Spirit. WE must demolish everything that is contrary, every lie, every imagination, every suspicion, every menacing thing that takes us to places that cause us to lose our hope in the God who made us.
The study gives a 5 step process that I would like to pass on:
- Recognize the Captor
- Stand in Agreement with God
- Tear Down the Lies
- Put up the Truth
- Bow Thought to the Truth
“most casual thoughts can easily turn into captivating thoughts., I think of it this way: Most captivating thoughts were once casual thoughts not surrendered to the knowledge of Christ.” Beth Moore p. 202 Breaking Free
This ties into the morning focus. How? Sometimes we wake up with a left over bad attitude from a problem the day before, or from an argument with someone, or a worry or care that is ongoing. It’s easy to begin the day stressing and being negative. This casual attitude and our negative thoughts end up adding up to being in captivity to a bad negative spiral most of the day. When asked what’s wrong, we are fine with ” I am just having a bad day.” And, it’s true in life there are bad days. But what if our focus in the morning helped us turn our thoughts upward when the dregs of yesterday threatened to come and take away our hope and joy?
- It starts with focus on Christ ( Good Morning Lord, Here I Am)
- Then we recognize the thoughts and attitudes that are not spiritual
- We take bad attituded down by having the truth ready
- We surrender our thoughts to the Truth
So, practically speaking I have been walking through some insecurity. There you have it! So here is what I decided to do to combat it first thing in the morning. Last night before bed, I armed myself with scripture verses, and wrote them out on a card. I placed them by my night stand. And, I took the wake up focus a step further.
Woke up…tired eyes opened.
Good Morning Lord, Here I am again today your daughter. Use me this day, fill me with your most Holy Spirit this day. Connect me to the Life Flow of the Father this very day.
Grabbed the Card
Father I confess to you that I have been insecure. The enemy of my soul is trying to use it cause my focus to be on my self and the insecure places. I recognize that it is him and not you who would like to capitalize on these feelings. I admit that this seems to be a stronghold. So, Lord before I get out of bed I thank you for truth…. Read Card ( I read it a few times outloud)
“Not that I am competent in myself to think anything of myself, but my competence comes from God. He has made me competent as a minister.”
2 Cor 3:4-5
Pray an agreement with Scripture. Bind the enemy from the lie, using Scripture. Take my position and stand, as I get out of bed feeling filled with God’s presence
All this took about 5-7 minutes max.
And…we say we have no time to seek the Lord and connect with Him!
Cool news is, once we connect in the morning, the focus keeps going upward all day long.
Make it a good day! Demolish the things that are held up in your mind that your enemy is trying to use to take you down.
Gotta go see my Cornerstone Peeps! 🙂
In His Enduring Love,
