Why Worry? Like me, I bet you can think of many reasons to worry. Besides that, worry for many of us, has become a mental habit. It occupies our time, our energy, our conversations and our thoughts. Some of us think that if we don’t worry, it proves we don’t really care.
Worry robs us of our health and is a major contributor to many diseases such as: cardiovascular diseases, hypertension, skin problems like psoriasis, irritable bowel, Chron’s disease, headaches, migraines…among others.
Yet, even though we are told this, we still think worry is a valuable option and opt worry over faith when given the chance.
19 million Americans are afflicted with anxiety diseases, and the lesser sister to those diseases is your regular every day worry, or as the bible calls it…FRETTING!
“Do not FRET it only leads to evil” Psalm 37
I am no rocket scientist, but if the Bible tells me something is leading me into evil, I think I should listen up and pay attention. What if we could learn to live a life of faith and learn not to default to fear and worry every chance something is hard, uncomfortable or challenging?
It must be possible because Jesus told us not to worry, and the Apostle Paul gave us a patterned way out of anxiety and worry. Check it out…
Today’s Truth
“I tell you, do not worry about your life. Look at the birds of the air, they do not sow or reap or store away in barns and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they? O you of little faith…the pagans run after these things and your heavenly Father knows that you need them.” The words of Christ, taken from Matthew 6
“Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving present your requests to God.” The Apostle Paul instructing Christians how to handle “real” life problems from Phil 4
Unpack the Truth
Jesus said to those following Him:
- Do not worry
- You are valuable to me, and I take care of you
- I know what you need
- Don’t live like the unbeliever who has a reason to worry.
Paul taught:
- Don’t be anxious or worried about anything. Refuse worry
- Instead pray about every detail in your life that is of concern
The result of this way of life?
“And the peace of God which transcends all understanding will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.” Phil 4:7
Try it today. When you are worried about something, stop and pray about it.
Take a breath focus on God knowing your needs. Thank Him that He knows exactly what you need. Then move on. The next time the worry comes back. Stop again and repeat.
Many blessings. Choose Peace today, it is a gift from the Father who values YOU!
Today’s Prayer
Father, thank you for placing value on our lives even though we don’t deserve a thing. You love us and that is amazing. You know what we need and that is even more amazing than we can comprehend. Forgive us for not trusting and worrying so. Teach us to place full confidence in the God who loves us, has us in his hands and will never let us go.
