England is a land of crowns. Crown Jewels can be seen at the tower of London, as the beauty and majesty of history is displayed on jewel encrusted crowns. In America beauty pageants crown the fairest of them all, little girls wear tiaras on their birthdays and crowns are a replica of being special or chosen.
Little girls in America are told they are princesses, wear princess gowns to play in and wear little play princess heels as they twirl about their houses. I can still remember a time when I was back stage in the green room before a church service. There were two little sisters that were going to be dedicated to the Lord by the Pastor that day. I had been doing announcements so I was back with the girls and their parents. Being they were dressed up like princesses for the special occasion it seemed natural to me to say to them,
” You two look like beautiful princesses today.” They both smiled and giggled a bit, when the oldest spoke to me,
” And, you look like you are a very, very old queen!” The parents were embarrassed and I laughed it off, but I never forgot it. Two weeks after that I celebrated my 50th birthday. A very, very old queen! Out of the mouth of babes.
There is something that it would do me good never to forget and it is the crown that God does place on my head…it is a crown encrusted with grace, love and power. It is a crown that is not about my beauty or my age. It simply is a crown of splendor and God’s majesty…check it out…
Today’s Truth: Psalm 149:4
“He crowns those we are oppressed with victory.”
Oppressed:
Burdened, overpowered, depressed, sense of heaviness, hardship, calamity.
Are you burdened today? Overpowered by worries or emotions? How about going through a time of depression or heaviness of heart. Stop and think about what this verse is saying. In the midst of our hardship, God is placing a crown on our head. It’s not diamond encrusted nor will it ever be visible in a memorial museum. But, it is power packed and is placed on us with a promise of victory over the enemy, victory over our emotions, victory over all that has led us to the place of oppression.
Today wear the crown with gratitude
- Use your energy to serve the Lord Romans 12:1
- Pray continually
- Don’t think you are smarter than you really are
- Focus your thoughts on those things considered noble
- Don’t let evil conquer you, but conquer evil with good
Today’s Prayer
Lord I thank you that you give me victory over oppression. As I look to you I am radiant and am crowned with your power and peace. The answer to life in times of oppression then is…to learn to look to YOU.
