I can remember many times that my kids bit into a candy from a box of chocolates, only to spit out the treat once they tasted the nasty insides. Once they caught on to not all chocolate tasting good, they began poking finger holes in the bottom of the pieces. Before long we had a one pound box of chocolates that all had little holes in their bottoms!
Let’s face it, it’s not what is on the outside that counts, it is the insides of things. And, though the lovely look of a beautiful truffle can entice us to bite in, once we have tasted what’s inside, sometimes we just spit it out. We can learn alot from bad chocolates leaving a nasty taste in our mouth.
Our heart is the center of who we are. We can entice people to believe or think something of us based on the outside, but it is the inside that counts. Often we are not interested in this center place and work on only the parts of us that everyone can see. Listen to what Oswald Chambers says about this in his book, Brining Sons Unto Glory:
“When a man’s heart is right with God the mysterious utterances of the Bible are spirit and life to him. Spiritual truth is discernible only to a pure heart, not to a keen intellect. It is not a question of profundity or intellect, but of purity of heart.”
Look at what Paul prayer about our heart, our inner being,
Today’s Truth: Ephesians 3:16-17
“I pray that out of his glorious riches he may strengthen you with power through his Spirit in your inner being, so that Christ may dwell in your heart through faith.”
Pray this for yourself today. Begin asking God to strengthen you at the core of who you are, and purify you from all things that keep your heart blocked from God. This is a prayer of faith. You will not feel different, but faith is not about seeing or feeling…it is believing.
