It’s Amazing to think that we really can have a different kind of life!
Amazing!
Why? because so many of us settle and snuggle into a less-than existence, a ho-hum type of faith- life that isn’t really faith at all. We run on our wheels, try to get our acts together, try harder and harder to be acceptable, approved of and of value. We end up exhausted, depleted, and depressed. Is this abundant life? Nope, don’t think so.
Abundant life has everything to do with the Good Shepherd and coming to Him, entering into His way for us, and settling into His power and protection over us. Abundant life is a lifestyle of advantage. That advantage is the power and presence of God leading us and guiding us through this life and carrying us into the life to come. No one on this earth can offer us this advantage except Jesus Christ.
He bids us to enter the resting place. Oh yeah, we might be laded with responsibilities, have a daily to-do list a mile long, and have more work than hours in our days…but still, He says, Come…enter into my rest. Let me be your strength, let me be your all, your everything.
Why would we be told about this rest if it were not for us today?
Today’s Truth: Hebrews 4:1-3
“Therefore, since the promise of entering his rest still stands, let us be careful that none of you be found to have fallen short of it. For we also have had the gospel preached to us, just as they did; but the message they heard was of no value to them, because those who heard did not combine it with faith. Now we who have believed enter that rest.”
The gospel and it’s promises will have no effect on us until we combine it with faith. To have faith in God and His Word is a choice. It is deliberate. It is choosing to believe that God is who He says He is and that His Word is God-breathed and inspired for us TODAY. Without adding this faith to the WORD, we drive our lives like cars with empty gas tanks.
How do you fill up?
Add faith to all you are doing today.
Faith is simply being sure for what you hope for and certain of what we do not see…( Hebrews 11:1) It is being sure that what Scripture tells you is real. Add that to whatever place you are in today, and in doing so, you will cease from self effort and find peace and even JOY in the experience of God’s presence and power.
- Are you on a diet? Add faith to your plan by trusting God to give you strength.
- Are you in a relationship rut? Add faith to your dealings by living out of love rather than selfishness.
- Are you in a down mood today? Add faith to your dark cloud by beginning to praise God for WHO He is, rather than living according to how you feel.
You get the idea.
Today’s Prayer
Lord, the wheel is a place I live when I am running in circles in self effort. It is a place where I put my trust in self rather than put my faith in God. Today I want to consciously put my faith and focus on God and believe that YOU are the answer to anything I need today. Teach me to live in a way that combines faith with the Truth, so that it will make a change in my life.
