I can only see what is happening on the outside of things. I see the surface but God is working in deeper places. God is working in the depths of my heart, restoring my soul, changing my mind, healing my hurts, setting me free…But, I often don’t see it. Instead I see the same ole’ stuff.
How foolish to spend my energies judging my life by the external hardships, my hangups and shortcomings, or the outward man perishing! When I do this, I easily lose heart and hope.
But, if and when I focus on what is happening on the inside of me, I actually get a little excited. Every single day I am being made new. Jesus is working on me… a little here, a little there. He is perfecting all that concerns me. He is allow circumstances that lead me to maturity. This process is not fun, but can be painful. And yet I love the idea of being renewed. Don’t you?
Today’s Truth: 2 Corinthians 4:16
“Therefore we do not lose heart. Even though our outward man is perishing, yet the inward man is being renewed day by day.”
Paul gives us some important keys to continuing in the faith and not losing heart as we follow God. We must see our weaknesses as a means by which God perfects His strength in us. In our weakness, He receives all glory when He moves through us with His power. We must learn to live by faith and not by what we can or cannot see with our natural eyes. We must remember that his grace is sufficient in ALL situations.
Today’s Steps
- Do not give up
- Do not allow discouragement to have it’s way with you, fight it with Biblical truth.
- Set your Focus on Faith in God. He will be faithful in the end!
- Thank God that strength and ability are not the criteria by which He chooses to use people.
- Thank God that it is His grace this is renewing you daily.
- Refuse to lose heart. Instead, focus on the Truth…the Lord Loves you enough to change you, work in you, and have his way with you.
Today’s Prayer
Father…I want to remember truth today. When I don’t I lose heart. Jesus, the maker of hearts, renew mine with hope in who you are and how faithful you are in our lives. Thank You for promises that the surface isn’t all there is…there is so much more. Allow me to rejoice in the deeper things, things unseen. This takes faith. Help my unbelief.
