The alarm clock brings me to attention, the coffee gets me caffeinated, and my car gets me to people, places and things. The days go by in a blur of activity. I love my life and I love the activity of the days…but is there something still missing? I have to look myself in the mirror and wonder if all this busyness is leading me to where I really want to be. In the middle of racing here and there, many women long to find a piece of something spiritual…really spiritual.
We all have a public life. This is where our life intercepts with other people. Our public life is often all there is to us….filled with people…places…and things… this part of life crowds out most waking moments.
Because of the busyness of American life, many of us have never learned the habit of being still, being quiet before God, or having white space to think.
We are consumed with details, lists and responsibilities and have little time to process, read, or enter into a mental conversation with our Heavenly Father.
The private life is a very important aspect of our spiritual growth journey. Building a habit of stealing moments of silence, thought, prayer, process….is all part of the journey of the woman in life-long development.
It is in the quiet places that God speaks the loudest. It is the quiet places that our heart turns to listen, and in the quiet places that we make commitments of surrender and obedience.
We have pubic lives and now we need to make room for private lives as well.
Today’s Truth: Psalm 138:19 The Message
“What I do, GOD, is wait for you, wait for you Lord, my God…you will answer! I wait and pray….”
How do we wait ?
By making a decision to NOT make any decision without first praying and laying everything out before God…and waiting until we have a sense of direction, leading, and guidance. Waiting is often best described as times of processing, reflecting on Scripture, lingering in prayer, praising God with our words and in song….waiting is a “rest stop” in our day, in our life, in our plans.
Have you “waited” lately?
Those who learn how to WAIT on God, are those who are developing a private life, hidden in the shelter of the Almighty…interacting with God in a way that we all long for.
He is here for us. He is calling us. I know we are busy…but will you join me in waiting…quieting ourselves…for maybe 10 minutes today. Will you try?
I will too!
Today’s Prayer
Teach us to wait on YOU Lord. Train us in quieting our minds before you. Show us the beauty of your Word as we wait on you and reflect on single passages, processing their meaning, conversing with you about them, letting them wash over our hungry hearts. Yes, Lord develop our quiet lives…
