We live in a celebrity culture. Everywhere we turn there is reference to people with status of some kind. It would be easy, growing up in this, to think that having some kind of status or social approval would lead to an enviable significance. But, the truth is, the celebrities that we follow and admire, are people just like us.
We were reminded of that recently with the untimely deaths of Michael Jackson and Farrah Fawcett. They were significant in the entertainment world, and many of us were sad to hear the news of their deaths. For me it started to feel like the end of an era.
In this moment I want you to realize that YOU are very significant too. You may not have a star of the Hollywood walk of fame, and you may not be in People magazine, but you are spiritually significant…in your own life, neighborhood, social setting, place of employment, family and community. You are part of God’s grand plan of things, and He desires to use you in ways that are more than you will ever realize here on earth…YOU are significant because the signature of God, your creator, is on your life…and He has a plan to work through you.
Today’s Truth 2 Corinthians 5:20
“We are therefore Christ’s ambassadors, as though God were making his appeal through us.”
Ambassador: A diplomat of highest rank, a representative in residence to another.
Appeal: The power of arrousing interest or attraction, an earnest plea
Unpacking Truth for REAL-LIFE
- We are somebody!
- We are Christ’s Ambassadors
- We are Christ’s representatives…in service, in residence to Him
- We are diplomats of Christ’s, one in a high rank of signficance to God
- God himself is working through us
- His work is to make an earnest plea of God’s Love for mankind through our lives.
- His work is to arrouse interest in the gospel, in holy living, in the person of Jesus Christ through our daily lives.
- Don’t fall prey to the lie that your life has no meaning or purpose
- Don’t fall victim to the pity party that you are not significant or less-than others
- Don’t buy into the lie that you have to MAKE yourself something special.
- You are somebody. You are Christ’s somebody
- Now live as his representative wherever he has placed you! ( that translates to…. bloom where you have been planted…for Him!)
Today’s Prayer
Father, help me to catch the vision of who I am in YOU. Help me to see the significance of living this out with my family, in my neighborhood, in my community and workplace. Help me to have vision of this on the public transit, subway or bart system. Help me to have vision of this when interacting with strangers in the marketplace. Jesus, I am yours, and I am your representative. Teach me to represent you well.
