There is a saying, between a rock and a hard place. It means to be in a tight spot, in some kind of troubling circumstance, or in a bad way. It is being squeezed by the pressures and hardships of life. Most of us can relate to that. Whether the spot is BAD or just a little hard, it would do us good to know that we are not alone and would help us to know what to do while in the pressing places of life.
In Psalm 42 David talks about yearning for God during times of distress. I love how he cries out to God and then gives himself a little talking to!
Today’s Truth: Psalm 42
“As the deer pants for the water brooks, so pants my soul for You , O God. My soul thirsts for God, for the living God. When shall I come and appear before God? My tears have been my food day and night. While they continually say to me ” Where is your God?”
When I remember these things I pour out my soul within me…
“Why are you cast down, O my soul? And why are you disquieted within me? Hope in God, for I shall yet praise Him. For the help of His countenance.”
O my God, my soul is cast down within me; Therefore I will remember You …The Lord will command His lovingkindness in the daytime and in the night His song shall be with me… Hope in God; For I shall yet praise Him, the help of my countenance and my God.”
First David spoke to God, then he speaks to himself. Why? He is obviously very discouraged and God seems far away. Yet, he knows that God is his only source of hope and help so he knows the best thing to do is to seek God in prayer. So, he talks to himself, to refocus himself on the promises of God. He challenges every unbelief in his heart.
What about you?
- Is there something in your life today that is disquieting you?
- Refocus yourself by going back to the promises of God
- Challenge every negative thought and unbelief with your heart.
Today’s Prayer
Father, I thank you that your lovingkindness is commanded from on High in my life today. Thank you that as I close this day your song will be with me. I put my hope in you. I praise You. Refocus my tired anxious little heart and enlarge it to be a BIG, filled with hope and grace heart….today.
