This summer I began taking golf lessons. Believe it or not, I am excited about learning something new. At my last lesson the instructor told me that I would need a glove for my left hand and some tees. Great!
As I walked to my car I was already planning my trip to the store to get what I needed. But, as I put my golf bag into the car I realized there was something in the zippered pocket. I reached into the pocket and there were the very two things I needed! My husband knew I would need these things. He got them for me already and equipped my bag with them…I just didn’t know it.
I stopped and reflected on what this was saying to me. My sweet husband knew what I needed and provided for me BEFORE I even needed these things. It was a reminder of what God, My Father, is like.
Today’s Truth: Matthew 6:32
“For your Heavenly Father knows that you need all these things.”
Jesus taught about worry. How relevant!
The word worry in the original is merimanao, which is to divide into parts. It is similar in nature to the word merimna, which the original word used in 1 Peter 5:7, ” casting all your care on him”. Merimna is the original Greek for the word care. This word means to be anxious before hand, and in today’s text in means to be anxious or distracted by the things that divide us into parts today.
What are the things that easily distract you with worry or care?
Jesus speaks up against worry because he knows, from his viewpoint, how unnecessary it is. He knows that we have a heavenly Father who is mindful of all our daily needs, our long term needs, our every need.
Have you ever realized that if you DON’T have something today…maybe you don’t need it today? When you need it, you will discover that it is there for you. Back to the golf bag…I didn’t know the glove was there, but it was. What I needed had already been provided by someone who loved me and knew what I was going to be needing. My husband was one step ahead…and so is the Lord…except God is countless steps ahead.
Jesus says we don’t have to worry. Guess it’s a choice!
Today’s Prayer
Lord, thank you that you know what I have need of. Today I feel lacking of some things, but I will trust that you are my provision. You are steps ahead of me…so I step into YOU again this day.
