Can a simple day be extraordinary? Can a casual smile, a friendly hug or a question to show interest in another persons life really mean that much? Is the effort it takes to be in relationships worth it?
Apparently God thinks so. He is the author of people and relationships. And, he gives a high priority to how we treat others. This week we have been in the first several verses of Romans 12. Today we see it all coming together and can easily see how everything fits, like building blocks…one on top of another.
Today’s Truth: Romans 12: 9-10
“Love must be sincere. Hate what is evil; cling to what is good. Be devoted to one another in brotherly love. Honor one another above yourselves.”
Can you see how the previous verses are important if we are truly going to live in today’s truth? It is impossible for love to be sincere if we have not come into agreement with:
- Surrender to God in total ( offer God your body as a sacrifice)
- Do not be pulled down to the world’s way( do not be conformed)
- Submit your mind to God for real life change ( be transformed by renewing mind)
- Think accurately about yourself ( do not think highly of yourself)
- Realize that you are part of a bigger picture ( body of Christ)
- Acknowledge that every part is important ( members of one another)
- Use your gifts because they are given as a extension of grace ( cheerfully)
- Do not compete or compare with others ( we have different gifts)
- Love sincerely and stick with what is good
- Devote yourself to others, lower yourself to honor other people
Sincere: not deceitful, not hypocritical, honest
Today let’s ask God to give us sincerety in our love and concern for other people. It will take that surrender and humbling of ourselves before God. You may want to reflect on the points of this first section of Romans 12 this weekend.
Today’s Prayer
Lord I see the truth right in front of me. You are calling me to surrender, humility and caring for others. I am open to learn your ways. Teach me Father.
