Giving is a funny thing. We give when it is convenient, we can afford it, or we are completely comfortable with what we are giving. We also sometimes give to get recognition, thanks and advantage. None of these types of giving are what the New Testament is talking about when it tells us to “give”. Giving, in the Biblical sense, is sacrificial, usually not convenient, and often is required of us even if we can’t afford it. Giving, in the Biblical sense, is never to be done for recognition, thanks or to gain advantage. Giving, in the Biblical sense, is a spiritual act of obedience, worship and love for God.
Today’s Truth: 1 Cor 9:6, Luke 6:38
“Remember this: Whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows generously will also reap generously. Each man should give what he has decided in his heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver. And God is able to make all grace abound to you, so that in all things at all times, having all that you need, you will abound in every good work.”
“Give and it will be given to you. A good measure, pressed down, shaken together and running over, will be poured into your lap. For with the measure you use, it will be measured to you.”
- If we give a little, we will get a little
- If we give a lot, we will have even more poured upon us
- We are to give with a willing, cheerful heart
- The way we give, the measure we use, will be the measure used on us
- God will provide our every need, making grace abound towards us
- We can trust that we can not out give God, can not give too much to others, and will always be taken care of by God, when and if we live giving out of our need, out of our resources, and out of a heart that is trusting God for our own increase.
Do you know someone today that could use something that you have?
Maybe they can use a hand, a smile, a friend. Maybe they can use some money for food, some help with a broken appliance, or a ride to the store.
What can you give today?
Today’s Prayer
Father, there are people all around with needs. I often get too focused on my own need, but I can see that when I am not living a life of giving, then I am missing out on some of the abundance of heart and spirit that you have designed for me. Help me to see YOU in the situations that I encounter. Speak to me when you want me to give, pour, or act as part of another’s solution. When I hear that still small voice, let me quickly say “yes” Lord, knowing that what I sow, I will always reap from you.
