There are many resources for advice, guidance, and direction in life. There are experts with information to help us, and the internet for fast fingered research on almost any subject. But what IF we learned to rely on God’s Word for the advice, guidance and direction we needed in life? Novel concept, but it really shouldn’t be. Today we are going to look at lining our lives up with God’s word, rather than allowing everything else to be our measuring stick. It’s time to bring our lives alongside God’s Word and measure our actions and direction for our life path accordingly.
Today’s Truths are from Psalm 119, 2 Timothy 3:16
v.4 ” You have laid down precepts that are to be fully obeyed.”
v.9″ How can a young man keep his way pure? By living according to your word.”
v.11 ” I have hidden your word in my heart that I might not sin against you.”
v.14-16 ” I rejoice in following your statues as one rejoices in great riches. I meditate on your precepts and consider your ways. I delight in your decreed; I will not neglect your word.”
v. 19 “I will obey your word. Open my eyes that I may see wonderful things in your law.”
v. 24 ” Your statues are my delight; they are my counselors.”
v. 25 ” preserve my life according to your word.”
“All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the man of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.”
Processing the Truth
Today as I look at just the verses above I am convinced, once again, that God intended His Word to guide me, be the source of counsel in my life, while equipping me for the life God has called me to live.
I wish I could say that I am always seeking to line up to Truth. But, the honest fact is that I am learning to do this more and more. This is now my goal, that His word would be the constant in my life. That God’s Word would be my counselor, convictor, measuring stick and evaluator.
Recently I was convicted of just a very small thing I said. I tried to brush it off, telling myself I was now being too hyper-spiritual about everything. But, the convicting, deep sorrow over such a little comment, would not leave me.
I went to God in prayer and asked him to forgive me if what I had said was wrong or out of place. Note, I asked him to forgive me “IF”, obviously still wanting a way out of conviction or responsibility. And, very gently I felt again, the nudge on my heart that let me know, what I had said would no longer work for me, IF I was serious about following after God and lining my life up to Truth. Then in an instant, Gods word flooded me becoming my delight! I was delighted that God, through His word, could convict me of wrong doing in such a way that made sense, and was very real to who I was and what I did.
God wasn’t saying, Debbie you are such a sinner, shape up! But, he was saying, Debbie, you are a saint, now live like one. You are saved by my grace and I call you a saint and part of a holy priesthood. Now live like part of that holy calling.
How about you? Has God’s Word become a duty? Is it part of a to-do list? Is it filled with guilt rather than delight? Is it the last place you go for help and hope? Do you feel hyper-spiritual if you take it seriously?
Today is the day to dare to live differently. Today is the day to dare to live according to God’s guidance, even when that guidance seems like foolishness to the world we live in. And, believe me, it will often seem like foolishness.
Live Up! today in Truth!
I am seeking to Live Up! with you!
