FUNK: Fear, panic, dejection, bad mood
- F…Focus Problem, Feelings Prevail
- U…Under the circumstance, the condition, the weather
- N…Neediness
- K…Keeping the Fire of the Funk Burning and Tended to
Yesterday we looked at the “F” in Funk, Focus. Realizing that the Funk always starts with a Focus problem, a sight problem, which moves us into a feelings problem. We see things a certain way, through a certain lens, and then we begin to feel according to how we are seeing things. So Focus is very important in overcoming this bad mood or this place of fear known as a FUNK.
Let’s look at that a little more today.
Today’s Truth: Hebrews 12:2
“Let us fix our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy set before him endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God. Consider him who endured such opposition from sinful men, so that you will not grow weary and lose heart.”
Fix:
- to repair; mend.
- to put in order, adjust or arrange
- to make firm or stable
- to place definitely and more or less permanently
- to settle definitely
- to direct the eyes or attention of
- to hold the eye or attention of in one place
I have worn corrective lenses since my early 20’s. I am amazed how much my vision( eye sight) can mess me up. When I have the wrong prescription glasses, when my contacts are clouded, when my lens is scratched or dirty…all of these things add up to seeing things differently. When I don’t see correctly I get a headache, and feel generally “off ” all day long. Our vision, our sight, is extremely important to our physical well being.
In the same way, our spiritual, emotional, sight and vision, is important to our emotional and spiritual well being too.
I think we can all agree that our eyes, our focus, our attention is often in need of repair. We are scattering our focus every which way, and when we need to focus on the Jesus and His faithfulness, we get distracted. We need to learn how to fix our eyes on Jesus. This alone will help significantly with the FUNK, as the rest of the verse today says….when we focus on Him, consider Him, we will not grow as weary or lose heart. Much of the FUNK is lost heart, weariness, and attention and focus on the wrong thing…the negatives.
Today just stay with this question.
How can I fix my eyes on Jesus?
Today’s Prayer
Father, I desire you to be my focus of attention. I get so distracted, and in that place I can easily get off track. Help me to learn what it meant to make my attention span on you firm, stable, direct. I need you Jesus. I want to keep heart, not lose it. I want to live in Faith and not in a Funk.
