Love is in the Air.
Over the next few days, or at least for this weekend…the symbols of love will be everywhere you turn. Hearts, flowers, candy and other symbols of love ,Valentine Love. It’s a time when lovers unite or lovers fight. It’s a few days of heightened expectations and either fulfilled or dashed “love dreams.”
It comes once a year and some welcome it while others are happy when it is over. The commercialized version of love haunts us, calls us, tempts us to believe that LOVE is whatever the media portrays it to be. Valentine love might be sweet and fun in the moment, but there is a love that lasts longer than the roses that wilt, longer than the candies that get eaten, and more precious than the jewels that we might receive from a guy. Don’t get me wrong, I am sappy and love Valentine love. But, I know that there is a deeper love and more fulfilling love than any person can give to me, and that love is wrapped in the gift package of Jesus Christ, and his love for me.

What if… I understood God’s Love for me personally?

“How great is the love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God! And that is what we are!”
“And so we know and rely on the love God has for us. God is love”
“Love is patient, love is kind…it keeps no record of wrongs. Love always protects, hopes and perseveres.”
“There is no fear in love. But perfect love (God’s Love) drives out fear, because fear has to do with punishment. The one who fears is not made perfect in love.”
Processing Truth
- We want to know who God is….He is Love
- We want to know what He is like…He is patient, kind, protective, forgiving, and hangs in there with “imperfect” people like us.
- We must learn to rely on God because as we learn to rely on this kind of love, fear takes a back seat in our lives.
- When we live in fear, it’s a good indicator that we need a fresh dose of God’s love for us, infused first into our minds and then repeated as often as necessary to get it into the blood flow of our hearts, and into every part of us.
Yes, God is Love.
To know of His love is simply …Head information.
To rely on His love is….Life Transformation.
Life Application
Today, in light of the celebration of “love day”, think about His love for you.
Take Today’s Truth verses in. Think about them often. Ask God to make the truth more real to you.
One thing is for sure…His love has been LAVISHED on you and on me. Thank God for that truth today. We don’t see it, but it is true. Join me in thanking God today for his protective love.
Today’s Prayer
Father, it is easy to recognize love from a person I can see, feel or touch. But, sometimes your love seems surreal and far away. Help me to internalize your love for me. Help me to recognize your call to my heart. Though I want to express love to others this Valentine’s Day, first let me receive LOVE from you. Jesus, be my Valentine.
