There is one constant problem in life. I wish I could say it was something other than it is, but the truth is…much of the time, my problem is “ME.” I really want my own way. I want to be appreciated, approved of and accepted. And, it doesn’t end there. I want to do what I want to do, when I want to do it. I want my way like a little child, but the trouble is…I am not a little child! I am a woman who has been created by God for His purposes, not for my own pleasures.
It’s natural to have a bent towards our selfish nature, the part of us that is always looking out for numero uno. Even though it’s comfortable and natural, doesn’t make it God’s best for us. Most of us have spent a life time learning a “natural” and “comfortable” existence that is not Biblical, but just the ways of man, the ways of our culture, the ways that people try to live out life. But, if we are going to follow the way of love, numero uno will have to take a back seat, as we learn to live the way Jesus did…not self-seeking.

Today’s Truth: 1 Corinthians 13:4-5
“Love is patient, Love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud, it is not rude, it is not self-seeking…”
Processing Truth
- What does self-seeking look like? THINK for a moment.
- What are some ways to NOT be self-seeking today.
- In your marriage, In your family, In the workplace, In your friendships….what might living in Agape, or selfless, look like.
- What is the opposite of self-seeking?
- How can you apply that opposite?
Remember you can not just decide to quit being self-seeking. It will work for awhile, but in time your composure will give way when the heat of the moment causes a burn of the flesh/pride/ or hurt feelings. When our buttons are pushed we need more than self-will to make a lasting change. We can not muster up enough to change in a lasting way. We must come to God and ask Jesus to change us more and more into His Image.
We can thank God that He put His Agape Love into our hearts, and because of this, we can now live in that love, which is not self-seeking. It now becomes a choice, and a daily one. The choice isn’t to follow another rule on another list. But, rather the choice is to connect daily to Christ and be filled with His spirit. To connect with Christ is to connect with God, which is to connect with love…for God IS LOVE. 1 John 4:16
Today’s Prayer
Lord of Love I desire to follow you in the Way of Agape. I am asking for a fresh fill of your Spirit’s love which is not self-seeking. I want to be God centered and others focused. Teach me how.
