Sun comes up, alarm goes off, body reacts and springs out of bed…well my body used to spring out of bed, but now it’s a bit more of a slow crawling out of bed. In any case, the day begins and now I have choices before me. Practical choices, seemingly non-important choices, and choices of thought, word and deed. They come fast but often go unnoticed. The things I “do” each day are routine but one thing is for sure, from the time my feet hit the floor I am living another day in the life of….
Will I commit the day and all in it to the Lord? Or, will I just blow full steam ahead into a day of my own making?
Will I acknowledge the strength that I need for the day? Or, will I just do things that have become routine and less sacred to me than they actually are?
Today’s Question: What if I actually committed my way to the Lord today?
Today’s Truth: Proverbs 16:3, Psalm 37:5-7
“Commit to the LORD, whatever you do and your plans will succeed.”
“Commit your way to the LORD; trust in him and he will do this. He will make your righteousness shine like the dawn, the justice of your cause like the noonday sun. Be still before the LORD and wait patiently for him…”
Processing the Truth
Commit: To place officially in custody or confinement, to entrust, to pledge or obligate.
Think of what it would mean to officially place what you “do” in the sole custody of God.
What are some of the things you do?
As a woman…. As a wife….As a mother….As a daughter…As a friend…As an employee….
We all “do” many things in any given day. We also all know what it is like to have what we do NOT Succeed. How amazing it is to think that when we come to God with all that we “do”, that He promises to go before us.
At the end of the Psalm…there is a hint of something we need to do if we are going to commit our way today to the Lord:
- Be still before the Lord
- Wait Patiently for Him
Have you stopped today to commit, or officially place into God’s hands your day? If not, stop right now, and find a place to do this. It is not magical or mystical, it’s practical. There have been times when I have actually gone into a bathroom stall to do this…in an airport, in the workplace, or as a mommy of small children going behind the closed bathroom door! The most practical thing we can do each day is to commit our way to the Lord.
Wow…What if…I always did that? What if you did?
Today’s Prayer
Father, clearly it is to be my daily practice to come before you, stilling my heart and mind from my own desires, lists, thoughts and plans. And, as I still my self before you, I am to turn over or commit to you my day and my plans. Help me see the beauty of officially giving you custody of me, day after day. And, may it start today, and be carried out in the future. One day at a time.

Thank you so much, being still is not one of my better traits and it is indeed something our Heavenly Father reminds when “I figget” 🙂 To Be Still.
